If you haven't already done so, you must pass your Theory and Hazard Perception Test before you can book your Practical Driving Test.

Please note that the Test Centres featured on this site are NOT Theory Test Centres. You can find your most convenient Theory Centre using the contact details given below.

There is usually a waiting time for both tests. The wait for a Theory test is usually less than two weeks, as long as you are flexible about when you can take it. For the Practical Test it can be anything from three to twelve or more weeks, depending on the centre, with Saturday and evening slots available at some centres at an additional cost.

The best way to book either test is on-line. Do not use third party web sites, there is nothing to be gained by using them and many will charge an extra booking fee! If you are booking on-line always use the official gov.uk website - you will be dealing directly with the organisation that administers Driving Tests. It is free, secure and you will only need to give them the same details as you would a non-official site.

Go to gov.uk and use the 'Driving and transport' link, then 'Driving tests..etc.'. You will see all the options and information you need and be able to choose your date and time from the available appointments. To book a Theory Test you will need your Driving Licence number and other personal details and a credit or debit card. You will need the same to book a Practical Driving Test plus your Theory Test certificate number and the date you passed it.

Booking your Test by telephone is no longer encouraged but you can try using the customer service line on 0300 200 1122 at any time between 8am and midday, Monday to Friday. They will be able to tell you what services are still available by this method.

Alternatively, if you have a driving instructor who is fully qualified (ADI) they may be willing to book either test on your behalf.
